Power transformer for Digitrax DB150
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 1:15 PM
I am considering the purchase of a Digitrax Super Empire builder set. It comes with the DB150 command station/booster. I have a transformer that I think should work, but I wanted to see if someone else thought otherwise. The specs printed on my transformer are:

Input: 120V 60Hz 35W
Output: 16.1VAC 30VA, 18.5VAC No Load

What do you think? To me, it looks like it should work even though the 30 amp output is overkill.

Hi LeisurePursuits,
I believe that 30VA @ 18.5 volt output is 1.62 Amps and would be undersized for the Super Empire builder.

Oh, I see. VA means watts, not amps. Oh well. Thanks for the input.

Leisure ...... that is not 30 amps, it is 30 *voltamps* (power)

in AC, watts does not equal voltamps, as it does in DC
