cheap glue

now is the time to stock up on white glue. wal mart discounts it's white glue for back to school sale. 4oz bottle .15. know bottle is small, but able to control better.

I have bought this "School Glue" in the past. Real cheap, thought it was a bargin. Since found that it doesn't work the same as the origional white glue. Many in my club also complained about it and told of past experiences of buying it also. Must be a different formula, weaker whatever. Stopped using it and only buy the gallons now. Have a lot of small applicators for glueing ballast now.
Has anyone had the same experience w/ School Glue?

I've found that school glue isn't the same as carpenter's white glue too. Must be a different formula. Maybe they make it so it's safe for kids to eat. Kids will eat glue! I just buy the big container of store brand white glue at the local hardware store and that's about as cheap as it gets.

oh no. i bought alot. it's called elmer's glue-all. do you think this is the bad stuff? thanks

No, Elmer's is the 'real' stuff. The stuff to avoid is the no-name brands. There's kinds labelled 'School Glue' that have no manufacturer's name on them. Elmer's is the original and still best. Elmer's has various products though, which vary mainly on how thinned the glue is already (among the various white glues - the formula is different for different types of glues). All that really means is you might need to experiment a bit to find the proportion of glue and water that works best - of course depending on who you ask you see anything from 70-30 to 50-50 anyway. So experimentation is the name of the game.
When I figured how much ballast I will have to fasten down, and based on what it took to do a simple foot long test section, I was planning to buy one of the gallon jugs of Elmer's at the big box store (Home Depot).

I found glue from Rite-Aid works well. I bought it because I was thinking about gluing balast while there.
