Decoder for a GP38??
Posted by trainster1073 on Saturday, July 23, 2005 5:26 PM

I know the best thing to do is to buy a loco with the decoder in it(less hassl). But does anyone know where to buy one for a GP38? or a GP38 that has a Union Pacific paint sceme and a decoder in it?

Thanks a lot

What brand of loco? It does matter as far as what decoder will go in it. And what scale?

I have an Athearn GP-38-2. It does not have the quick connect plug so I installed a Digitrax 121AT decoder. I think that Atlas makes a GP38 that you can get with the decoder already installed.

It's an atlas GP38 and N scale. I don't know anything about decoders, so anything would help.

Thanks

You're best off getting one that's designed to replace the Atlas light board. NCE has one - the N12A0 and Digitrax has a DN163A0. Anything else will be a lot more work.

Check their web sites for more info:
NCE - www.ncedcc.com
Digitrax - www.digitrax.com

Hope this helps.
