Matt: Our club went -- reluctantly -- with the Digitrax system (we had had another system that was difficult to impossible to figure out, i.e., code) and we have never looked back. We regularly run non DCC locos along with the DCC locos and it gives us all the flexibility in the world. Jump into DCC -- you'll be glad you did. And as others have said, start with one loco a month to add the chip. Even with a small layout (our club's N Scale Layout is 2 by 6) we have DCC so two operators have the run of the layout.
