City transit el kits
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 8:33 AM
Hi all. I'm thinking of a couple of designs in which to showcase my HO New York subway rolling stock. An el - a low viaduct carrying the trains over a street - might be very attractive. I've looked for kits but haven't found any. Does anyone know of an available kit, or would I need to scratchbuild the structure?

Thanks!

A reasonable representation can be found in Micro Engineering's City Viaduct kits (see Walthers catalog). These represent elevated tracks with associated girderwork found commonly in major city els.

Micro Engineering makes "city viaducts". They're about as close as you're going to get without scratchbuilding them.

(search the Walthers website for "micro Engineering" for all sorts of parts related to these viaducts)

An article on scratchbuilding the NYC elevated was in an issue of MR sometime in the 1980s. Check the above index.

Atorres,
One starting point might be Micro Engineering Company's city viaduct series, items 255-75509, -75510, -75511, -75512, and -75168 in the Walther's catalogue.

Ooops, sorry for the redundancy. Some people type faster than I do.

Atorres,
Here's a link to article citations in the Index of Magazines:

You'll have to sort out the non-relevant ones, use of elevated railway or elevated railroad as search terms didn't work.
You might also try a Google search using elevated railway model as a search term.

Thank you all very much! Micro's city viaduct is just what I'm looking for. Nearby Train World (McDonald Av, Brooklyn) has plenty of Walthers stock. I think a Saturday visit is in order!
