Transfer Of Track Plan
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, March 17, 2005 2:40 PM
Hello Everyone,

Sorry if this a double post..seems like my other did not make on here.
Well my benchwork is completed and my 2" Foam Board in place [8D].
My question to everyone is how do I go about transfering a track plan from paper to my benchwork ?
I just can't seem to come up with a simple enough solution to this.
So any help would be appreciated.

Thank You all for your help and Happy Railroading.....

Pick a starting spot, probably a place with a couple of turnouts. Use the actual track to lay that in place and shuffle around til it's close. Use a straight edge to mark straight sections. FOr curves, you can cut templates out of thin wood or cardboard, or take a yardstick and drill holes in it and use a tripod.
I use 3rd PlanIt to draw my track plan, and it allows you to print out full size across multiple sheets of paper. After doing that once - no more. From now on I will use the track plan to get a good idea of what fits where, and just lay it out by hand to look as much like the plan as possible. Exact really isn't required. And the time I took to actually draw the BENCHWORK exactly as I was going to build it, I could have just built the darn thing. Track plannign is a good and necessary thing. Using it like an exact blueprint is not.
