Decoder recommendation for Atlas Master Series Dash 8-40BW
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 9:15 PM
I'm looking for recommendations on the appropriate decoder for a Atlas Master Locomotive Series Dash 8-40BW locomotive. Atlas #7238, DCC ready (includes NMRA 8-pin plug).

I'm looking for decoders with best bang for the buck, basic features, low cost. Also looking for a source where I can buy online since I live out in the boonies far from a brick/mortar train shop!

Lots of good features but inexpensive - TCS T-1. You can get a wide range of decoders from Litchfield Station, great prices, and for orders over $50, shipping is free. So you have to figure that in when comparing to other palces that charge as much as $8.95 to ship stuff.
Bruce is very knowledgeable, and has plenty of pictures of various installs on his site. The TCS site is also a gold mine of installation photos.

I have this engine and being that this engine already has an nmra plug you need to either solder the wires from the T-1 to a plug or order a short length JST harness. My harness is 1 inch wire length.
The DH150DP is a direct plug in but is several dollars more.
Digitrax has the DH123PS that will plug in with a short harness. Close to the same price as the T-1.

I order from Bruce at www.LitchfieldStation.com often and he does me good. For me, you cannot beat the T-1 for price, value, and dependability.
