Considering N scale

Ben: A 3'x6' layout would give you a good bit of room in N scale. N is often a bit cheaper than HO, and there is now a great selection of engines, rolling stock, etc. available in N - not as much as HO, but we are catching up quickly. One thing to consider is probably your eyesight - N is quite a bit smaller than HO to work on, and can be somewhat frustrating if your eyesight isn't good - a good magnifier light is a good thing to have. I model the NYC in the mid 1950's era, and there is a lot of stuff available in N for what I model. Take a trip to your local hobby shop, and do some price comparisons - I think you will be happy with the N scale!
