Ideas for Layout
Posted by jlcjrbal on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 9:42 PM
Just wanted to run a few ideas on here concerning my future layout
HO Scale , I will have a 12X6 L shaped layout. I would very much like to run 24" radius curves down to 22" on the first level along with some industry points and a small yard for each industry, having a nice gorge in the middle with some bridges. I want to do a second level for a yard and Round house with a turntable but I still want to have the luxury of a 22" radius around the outside of the roundhouse ( although they will not be at a high speed around here so I was thinking of just doing a 18" around the roundhouse. Use the bottom level as my full throttle area . Anyway just some ideas I wanted to put out there. sound do-able??? Joseph

It'll work just fine for you. Try to keep all the 24" radius curves you can. Do you plan to use sectional track for the 22" and 18" curves? If so, the first and last section should be a 22" and the rest in the curve should be 18". You will be surprised at how large an engine will make that turn. My 2cents worth. Have fun and enjoy.

What type of rolling stock will you be running?
The radius and turnout number (frog) will dictate the type and size of the equipment you can run over it. Some long rolling stock will take sharp curves but won't look right doing it.
