When out club went modular 9 years ago, we looked at the Canadian groups, the NMRA specs and others. While our modules are not a copy of either, they are a blend of all the things we liked of each. Probably more importantly, they are backwardly compatible to NMRA specs. Why? Most club specs we found were compatable. If a member moved to another location, with minor modifications, the modules could fit in with another group. Also, if we want to, we could join other groups at shows without having to construct transition modules.

Personally, I would recommend adopting a set of specs that has already been hashed out. We wrote our original spec book in 1995, and revised it this year. With the addition of DCC, the accompanying wiring schematics to the step by step construction info, its a 78 page document! It was A LOT of work! [:p]
