Hi All First I want to thank all of you that helped me with my liftout bridge problem and the choice between using track cutters or a dremmel tool to cut tracks on my bridge, the project is coming right along nicely, Now Im not at this point yet, but I will soon, backgrounds, I have seen videos of layouts that have emaculate backgrounds and the op would use actual photos of the area that they are modeling, what I want to know is how would one do this step, I understand there's a app you can use to have your pictures copied through Walgreens, Thanks Again Trainsrme1
There are a number of places that can print out panoramic photos. Just not too sure of the costs involved. Check out Staples and other places too. My local UPS store advertised printing services too. You can probably look into the commercially available backdrops for something close. Probably would be a lot less expensive.

Painting the backdrop is far cheaper and easier than a professional effort. I'd argue with a professional job you'd detract from the center of attention: the trains, scenery, structures, etc.
If I've got the Transition Era diesels on the tracks, I'm playing that old time rock 'n' roll.
If the steamers are out, then it's probably big band music.

From what I have seen, it works best with photo backdrops to cut out the sky part and not use it. You'd apply the lower part with the land and trees etc. to a painted sky backdrop. It's pretty easy to join sections showing hills and mountains and such and hide the seam with a model tree or something. If you try to use the sky part, you end up with very unrealistic seams in the sky.
