An optimist sees the light at the end of the tunnel

A realist sees a frieght train

An engineer sees three idiots standing on the tracks stairing blankly in space

My harbor railroad is a few tracks leading out to my carfloat.  I named it the Westport Terminal Railway after the models of our departed friend Wofgang Dudler.  The only identifying markings are on the sides of an 0-6-0 tank engine and the three idler flats used for carfloat operations to keep the engine off the float.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Perhaps the right and honorable folks at MR will consider writing an article about harbor railroads.

I have been helping a friend build an N scale version of the Ventura County Railroad in Oxnard, California.  The VCR serves the Port of Hueneme as well as the adjacent Navy base.  The original track plan was a continuous loop of track around Oxnard with the harbor in the southwest corner of the loop and an interchange with the Southern Pacific in the north east corner of the loop.  While the harbor currently serves mostly as a delivery point for imported autos, it still serves general cargo shipments as well as military cargo.  During WWII, the Navy Construction Battalion base was extremely busy shipping heavy equipment and construction materials from the harbor to the Pacific theater.

There have been several articles in MR and annual issues over the years.

The last issue of MR had an article about the harbor railroad and ferry that sent cars to Cuba.
