KATO N scale turnout problems
Posted by gregeol on Monday, August 30, 2021 1:31 PM

Is anyone else having lots of problems with KATO tunouts? I will test them and they work fine then I put them on the layout putting them down with a very thin layer of adhesive caulk. They may work for a short while or not at all after that. The manual lever moves both manually and electrically but the points don't move. Occasionally the electrcal throw won't work but that is rarer. I know the thin wire can move out of it's slot, but just buy putting it down? I have always read how reliable they are but they have been anything but reliable for me. I have a mixture of 4's and 6's and the problems are not confined to one or the other. Any help or comments would be appreciated.

I know with the HO ones you have to be very careful about doing any weathering or painting (like painting ties) around the moving points. Even the slightest change, like a thin layer of chalk weathering around them can cause them to stop moving.
