My first post and (mini) layout
Posted by walleboom on Friday, November 6, 2020 4:36 AM

Hi!

Christmas is approaching and my mother told me she was sad she could not afford a model railway when I was growing up. Fast forward some 25 years and one grand son - now she can! Big Smile

"Here's an initial investment, tell me if you need more! Oh, and it would be nice if it would fit right over there on my dresser... - Uhm... that will be a challenge mother, but I'll try.."

Started googling some, and found the h0 scale "Kleinwald" layout

https://railway.zone/post/track-plan-kleinwald

That will not fit... but maybe I can make it in a smaller scale? - What a rabbit hole!

So this is what I came up with, Märklin Z Mini-club Kleinwald:
Z Scale Kleinwald

Would love to hear if you have any ideas for improvements (within that space, it could be a bit wider though). There's a 2 degree error in the junction at the bottom right tunnel entrance, is this a big problem?

Welcome to the forum!  Your first posts will be delayed by the moderator.

I like the layout!  Lot of action in a small space. It is based on marklin track - do you have access to that?  Otherwise, it might be difficult to reproduce using Peco or North American track, especially the switches. It might be difficult to do the left siding as shown. Keep in mind that only small locos will look good (and behave well) on such a small layout. But hey, there's tons of small good looking locos out there that will work well. I can see a nice little 4-4-0 steam train and a nice 0-6-0 switcher doing hard work on that pike...

Thank you!

I'm from and I live in Sweden so I think that's what's most common in our model railway stores?

I've found some starter packs that seems nice, and some parts second hand on an auction site.

"4-4-0 steam train and a nice 0-6-0 switcher"? Big Smile You lost me there! - This is my first dive into model railways ever! :)

Welcome to the Forum.
Here’s a link to a thread with a layout similar to what you’re thinking about. A whole lot of great modelling going on in a small area…
