it -should- be more effective with power supply rather than a battery ..
higher current [ 185ma versus 230ma ] as well as higher voltage [9.0 volt versus 12 volt]
I have had my GrassTech for a couple of years and I'm still on the fist set of batteries.
I would rather not have a cord tying me down when I do this.

That was my thought as well, until I read those instructions. He wants to use a wall wart instead of a battery. And he doesn't want to spend any money for a new wall wart when he has a bunch of them hanging around.
The information given for the w.s. power supply doesn't give any specifications.
Center negative, 12V, anything over 300ma should be fine. The one Dallas Model Works sells for Australia is rated at 1.5 amps.
I just googled for the power supply and frankly, shame on Woodland Scenics for hiding the specs on their packaging - even more so if the required rating isn't molded into the case next to the socket where it plugs in. But I found the one from Dallas which clearly showed the label. Can't use theirs in the US since it's a 240V input, but the output is going to be the same, and on the label it shows the coax power connector is center negative and it puts out 12V at up to 1.5 amps.

I get it, it does say it's 12vdc, and you can use the 9v battery, so...? And it shows what the jack looks like.
I didn't think it was that difficult.
EDIT: I do have to agree that WS is very stingy with the info and specs. I suppose that way, your not sure, so you just buy their's.
