I don't know if I'm imaginging it or what but doesn't someone make window signs for the Walthers Merchant's Row buildings?

You might be thinking of the City Classics window coverings. This is one example:

https://www.walthers.com/1940s-50s-window-signs-for-windows-3-8-to-1-quot-1-to-2-5cm-wide

They have several different styles available, most of which could be used in the Merchant's Row buildings.

They also have interior scenes which will add a lot of life to your buildings. This is one example:

For the upper storeys if all you need are curtains and blinds you can just cut them out of coloured paper.

City Classics also makes sheets of window shades and Venetian blinds for houses and the upper floors of more urban buildings.  I print my own decals, so I do window signs, too.  I could be mistaken, but I think my Merchants' Row had a few window sign decals.

These storefronts have big enough windows that you might consider some lighting and printed interior walls.

I create my own window signs, shades, and blinds in PowerPoint. This gives me the freedom to make any sign, advertisement, or other window treatment I want.

Seriously? Your response to someone who is just trying to help you is a bit curt IMHO.

Well, there are others here who want to learn and grow as modelers. I hope they found my post helpful.

Sorry so many of you were offended by my comment. I asked for some info on commercially produced window signs, I don't have Power Point and have almost zero computer skills so telling me what you can do is of no help. If that ruffles some of you guys then so be it.

Maybe asking a simple question isn't something some of you can understand and supply REAL HELP with.

Dave, I don't see how his humble offer was help.

Happy new year!

One of the really good things about the forums is that people get exposed to alternate solutions which they may not have considered or been aware of. Your outright rejection of those suggestions is hardly within the spirit of the forums or of model railroading in general.

Perhaps the next time you want to post a question you should make it very clear that you will not accept any alternatives to the path that you have chosen. You have every right to do that. However, if you don't make your requirements absolutely clear, then you have no right to reject anyone who is just trying to help.

My 2 Cents

Dave,

Sorry I broke some Cardinal rule of model railroading and the forums. I didn't know the rules! I've only been modeling for some 60 years.

I didn't outright reject his suggestion. I didn't see it as a suggestion but as an "I do it this way". A suggestion would offer some ideas on what he was talking about. Like I explained, I have very minimal computer skills so I haven't a clue how to make signs or how he does it. Due to that lack of skills I was rather depending on something commercially available.

Thankfully a couple nice fellows have pointed out things that were actually usable to me.

Obviously you seem to think everyone thinks as you and many of us don't. I thought asking about who made commercial window dressings was about enough to get that response.

Could you offer anything helpful? Any computer graphics courses or something?

Seems like you're starting 2019 with a hangover or something.

I visit here to share ideas. Often, I discover a method or a product I didn't know was available by reading other members discussions or asking a question myself. I'm a better modeler for it.

I appreciate all the input from others. It only takes a few minutes to read someone's suggestion. I don't have to use it right away but I might "mentally" file it away for future reference.

The idea of an open forum is the ability to share ideas on many levels without the fear of rejection or ridicule simply because a suggestion didn't meet your exact criteria.

I much prefer to engage in a polite and civil discussion. I believe Dave was simply trying to keep things on that level, and I agree with his point of view.

Thank You, Ed

Thanks Ed.

I don't think that there is anything to be gained by pursuing this conversation any further. oldline1 is free to do as he wishes.

Personally I tried to point out a couple of possible options, one by considering the City Classics window treatments, and the other by making his own paper blinds, but apparently I fell short of his expectations. In the future I will never risk his rath again by trying to be helpful.

Enough said!
