Liftup bridges for HO

I'm working on my first HO layout. It will be in two sections covering a 17 x 14 room overall. I need plans on building a liftup bridge of sorts to connect two sections. I need the bridge to occasionally get at a closet. I've seen HO module layouts that have a four-foot bridge module that members lift up to enter the middle of the layout. I think I could modify such a module to accomodate the gap that I have to fill. Can anyone point me to articles or plans for liftups? The overall gap I'm trying to fill is 59" long but the bridge portion would only have to be 3 or so feet. I've seen plans for a swing-out but I'm only looking for a liftup. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

There was a guy in Model Railroader who used such a device to connect his main New Haven Layout to his Union switching railroad. Bahhhhhhh I forget his name.[:(!][:(!] It was in a issue called " small model railroads" or something a few years ago.

i just finished the benchwork on my around the room shelf layout, I just took the door off the closet. Problem solved no liftup bridge needed.

I think you might want to look at some past threads on "train elevators." Here's a link to one earlier thread:

To find more threads, go to the Search the forums . . . window near the top right hand corner of this page and click on the Advanced button, enter the term train elevator and select the Exact Phrase radio button. Set the search time to cover at least the past year.

two are a straight 36 inch double track lift up and the other is a 90 degree corner lift up 46 x 30 ( 28 in on the narrow end).

I also built a drop in, however the next time someone places it on my tracks I will change it to a swing up. Take care ...John

Well, here's a article from the MR site here on building a swing bridge. If you want diagrams, you should find the March 1998 issue of MR, it has this article with diagrams ect, or at least that's what it says at the bottom of it. I hope this helps.

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions. The offer of details for the 36 inch straight liftup most matches what I'm trying to do. I thought I would find a lot of HO module types who would know about the liftups. This forum is always very quick to respond. Have a Happy New Year.
