DIY Static Grass Applicator Screen Size
Posted by BigDaddy on Thursday, September 13, 2018 4:37 PM

I was going to make one out of a fly swatter and a little strainer.  Recently I saw a youtube video of Woodland Scenics new applicators.  If I recall correctly, they will come with 3 screen sizes and the big one looks huge, as if all the static grass will fall out before you get to the layout.

Is anyone modifying screens or strainers to have bigger holes?

I think the video was James Wright or Rons Trains, train show report.

Definitely bigger than window screen.  I looked at the above videos and it's not there.  Maybe it was in one of Cody's videos, but MRVP doesn't want to show me those videos.

This is Kathy Millett's video, a screen shot.  You get the impression that is definitely not window screen spacing

Found a pic on Woodland Scenics Facebook page

A better shot of Kathy's WWS applicator

My Noch critter comes with 3 screens:  12 per inch, 8 per inch, 3.7 per inch.

I use the middle one for 6 mm grass, and the 12 for shorter.  Haven't used the biggy yet.

I happened to have a plastic-edged, thus insulated, bowl shaped, strainer on hand when I went about the manufacture of my "Faraday Cage".

I could measure the mesh later but it seems to me that there are about 16 wires/inch. Definitely larger openings than window screen.

Works very well for my application. Kathy needs a manicure.

Good Luck, Ed
