Layout is starting to come along......
Posted by PRRT1MAN on Friday, March 9, 2018 11:09 AM

After 6 years of planning saving, getting basement ready I have made some great progress this winter on the benchwork.  Still need to build walls to  separate halves of the peninsula but  getting there!

That is going to be nice and big. I like how you trimmed the front sides with wood.

How wide are those sections? Looks like a long reach?

If there is access to both sides of the penninsula than reach may not necessarily be an issue.

There is accress from each side from the peninsula so reach on one section is a bit long but the vast majority is 30" or less.

30 inches is stretching it depending on the height of the layout (and your height), but it is probably doable.

Uh oh.  A sea of evil OSB waferboard.  Surprise

I use it too and it's been ok.

Yes I have 1/4" drywall that I hope to get added this weekend and mold the tube into it so that i do not have a hard corner at the end.

That's a pretty cool way to handle the end of the divider wall.  Thumbs Up

Is your back drop going to be painted, or a photo-type glued to the drywall?  The reason I ask,  I've filled many of them, in all different sizes, with concrete, and some have a waxy type finish on the outside to protect them from the weather.

The concrete tube I bought is just cardboard. I am going to put drywall compound around the whole outside to blend the drywall to the tube then paint the whole backdrop.

Thanks, This is going to be transition era, I am modeling specifically the Pennsy line of the E&P branch. It is named Erie to Pittiburgh but in reality only went from Erie to New Castle PA.  My Grandfather was a track walker for the PRR and I live in the area of the old roadbed... :-( Wish it was still running.
