Walthers Huletts Kit?

Group,

Have any of you built this kit? If so any pointers. I just started it last night and seems pretty straight forward so far.  Maybe even some pointers to make it more realistic.Walthers Hulett

Hi, T1Man

I built four of the beautiful hunks. As you say, pretty straight forward.

I recently got around to painting them and installing lights. I can comment further on the lights as time permits. So far I only have lighting on the base, nothing on the winch house or leg.

Cleaning up all those wheels was tedious. They fit a little sloppy in the trunions. Actually there's no real reason to make them so they roll.

Instead of using the supplied thread I used Berkshire Junction EZ Line for the winch. That seemed to work out OK.

I made these bronze pickups that ride on N scale M-E track that is powered for my lights.

These are great kits! Lots of photos and drawings can be found here:

I took this picture at the Walthers booth at a train show shortly after they were released.

It's a very cool model, but doesn't fit my layout.

Your link works, I see one photo.

Maybe go to the General Discussion forum, and read about posting photos.

It's a great kit.  I spent about 40 hours building mine.  I didn't bother to paint most of it till it was nearly assembled.  I then airbrushed it with tarnished black.  the wheels and drive gears I hand painted.
