Way cool work! I am all for super easy and fun. This technique does that in spades. How to modify the colors for rivers/streams? I presume the technique will work the same.

The choise of color depends heavily on what you are modelling. Some shallow streams sometimes look sand brown towards dark brown, while heavier streams in the mountains have a more bluish purpur tone. Check photos or go out there to have a look. The white foam is applied using white acryllic paint layered with WS water effect. See my water fall video for detais on that:
