N scale 4x8 1 industry layout help!
Posted by Trainboy440 on Saturday, July 29, 2017 11:43 PM

I am comparing doing N scale or HO scale and I want to see if there is a possible way to fit a coal mine or rock quarry in a 4x8 n scale. The coal mine will need a mountain by it to get the coal out, and the rock quarry will probably need something like that but with a rock loader. Also I would like a spot where I would drop that stuff off, for coal to a barge or a power station and for the rock to a interchange area to pass of to CSX or NS. Thanks!

This layout has a logging theme but includes a mine. It could easily be changed to mining or quarry with minor changes in the  log loading area and "port" area track arrangements and industries. It is HO but would work better in N scale.

When looking at track plans, keep in mind that the industries and scenery shown are just suggestions.  Other themes and treatments are possible.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

This 4X8 N scale layout (scroll to the bottom of the page and click for for a .pdf of the N scale version) has additional general industries, but could easily be focused more on coal (or rock).

Good luck with your layout.

Here are a couple of Google image links to 4x8 N scale layouts.

Can you link that track plan?

Thanks.
