An update on my construction
Posted by rrinker on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 10:12 PM
I put down some Woodland Scenics Track-Bed on the actual layout tonight, this time using latex caulk instead of white glue. All I can say is..WOW! This is the absolute BEST method to fasten roadbed to the benchwork, in my case extruded foam insulation board. I used some cheap stuff I got at Home Depot, Polysealer or something like that is the brand, it comes out white but dries clear. It was the cheapest stuff they have (I have a tube of DAP to try as well, but I don't see the point of paying more for the DAP). I opened the tube with a TINY hole so it came out in a very thin bead. I spread this with a putty knife, and stuck the roadbed on top. The caulk is just tacky enough to hold the roadbed in approximate position yet gives enough and stays fluid long enough to adjust the position before sticking pins in to hold it in place. 2 hours later, the pins can come out and the roadbed is not going to move. I ran a continuous section 12' long in a matter of minutes.
I also positioned 2 of many Tortoise switch motors, mounting them from the top as I mentioned in other threads. I'm kinda stuck now, I need to buy some more switches and more Tortoises before I can really proceed.

i purchase the tortoise switch machine by the twelve pack...they are cheaper that way..got them form internettrains.com..also I purchase the box of flex track that contains 100 sections of track..it's about $325.00 for the track and the twelve pack of tortoise machines...I enjoy building the layout just as much as running the trains...chuck [:D]

I like the method you used. I did the same in regard to the glue/small hole/thin bead. Works very well.

Im with Chuck too. Building the layout to me is just as fun as running trains. I love construction.
