Looking for some ideas/plans on building a Disneyland layout
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 7:17 PM
Hi there,

I'm a newbie to the site and looking for some help.

My kids think it would be fun to build a train layout of Disneyland. Has anyone ever done this? Or have any of you ever seen any layouts or plans of this available anywhere?

Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Yes it has been done, BUT to get a nice park you are talking money. Check with walthers.com Walthers sells kits for the rides and tents found on the grounds. They even have a big tent. The kits can put a heaping hole in your pockets. You didn't say what scale but you will find rides for all scales. If you can handle the prices and you are good at kits go for it and good luck.

Disney sells sets for their Walt Disney World railroad. I've seen both HO gauge and G gauge. They also sold monorails. I'm not sure what's available right now. If you don't mind the inaccuracies, you could probably use these. (Maybe in California they have Disneyland versions.)
For information, look for the Carolwood Pacific website. There's also a book on Disney railroads by Michael Broggie. (check spelling)

THE book on Disney RRs is Walt Disney's Railroad Story.
Has story on locos custom built for Disney, and origins of vintage historic locos bought to use on park railroads. Specifications of locos on Disney parks around the world.
