Micro Engineering turnouts

Has anyone experienced the switch rails separating from the closure rails when the spring is removed, any fix?

Yep I've had that happen. Never found a reliable fix. I don't get overly worked up about prototypical detail, so my solution was to replace them with Atlas or Shinohara turnouts. But the MEs are really nice looking turnouts---and for an experienced track layer I've no doubt they can operate without issue.

I have always used Shinohara switches because, to me, they look more prototypical. But the points can be troublesome making electrical contact. I have recently replaced some Shinohara switches with Peco. I like the spring loaded points. Hopefully they will hold up.

Has anyone installed Peco and ME switches on their layout? Which seems more reliable?

No Peco here, but lots of Shinohara (HOn3 and dual gauge) and some ME (HOn3). The ME looks great and work well, they're just inherently more delicate than the Shinohara design. I was used to horsing my Shinohara's around during the install, but soon learned you have to be more deliberate and gentle when placing and spiking down the ME to avoid damaging them.
