Hi everyone,
My next, long-awaited layout is taking shape. I have a 9' X 6' space and like a mix of industry, freight and passenger runs, and city / townscapes. My era is probably 70s / 80s - all diesel. And I like yards - grew up near one :)
How can I attach a scan of my proposed layout?
Thanks in advance.
Mike,
Welcome aboard!

You need to upload it to a photo-hosting site, like Photobucket. I think there's even one as part of this site, but I can never find it. Then, start a post and click on the "Insert/Edit Image" icon, which I think is supposed to be a picture of a mountain with the moon behind it. Enter the URL of the uploaded picture and press OK.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Mike:
I'm a dinosaur when it comes to doing these things. It still takes me a few minutes to remember how to do it.
Anyhow, I believe that you will have to save your track plan as a JPEG image before you can transfer it to Photobucket. Then its just like posting a regular picture. If you need more info, just ask.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Thanks Dave. I posted to Photobucket - it seems to have been saved as a jpg.
I'm going to try to post again - if I can find the Insert option :)
Mike
MisterBeasley described the 'insert' icon pretty well, but all you have to do once you start your post is hover over the icons and the function description will pop up.
Remember that you have to have copied the image in Photobucket. To do that, when you select the image there will be 4 options offered on the right side of the screen. Click on 'Direct' and the word "Copied" should appear momentarily highlighted in yellow. Then go back to your post in the forums and click on the 'Insert' icon.
The easiest way to handle this is to have two browser windows open, one for the forum and one for Photobucket. I hope I'm not stating the obvious but its hard to know how experienced another person is with computers.
Thanks Dave. I'm okay with computers and use them daily, not much more than that. I saw the mountain icon ("Insert") the first time I posted; now there is only File, Edit, View and Format. Perhaps I do need to post a few more times to gain access.
I don't think the length of time that you have been posting influences whether or not you can post pictures. The missing icon might have something to do with your browser. The forums do not play nice with recent versions of IE. Many, including I, have switched to Firefox and have no problems.
Others are far more familiar with the problem so hopefully they will add some advice. You could consider modifying the title of the thread to better indicate the nature of the problem. To edit the title, go back to your original post, and when you select 'Edit' it will allow you to edit the title too.

That happens to a few of us. Most can refresh the page before typing anything and it magically appears. If you've already typed your post, "cut" or "copy" the text before hitting refresh, then "paste" it back into the post body if you now see the mountain icon.
