Minimum Radius and Turnout Numbers in HOn3
Posted by jfbargmann on Thursday, November 11, 2004 8:58 AM
I've been involved in model railroading since I was child when my dad and I built a 4x8 HO layout in our basement. Since then, I've grown up and moved away. I've been away from modeling until recienly. I've just started drawing ideas for a new layout and saving my money to buy things for a layout. I need some advise though. I've read thought the RP documents on the NMRA web site regarding minimum turn radius and turnout sizes for varous locomotive sizes, but couldn't find information about it those recomendations change from HO to HOn3. My dream is to run K-27s, K-36s, and K-37s from the D&RGW and am designing with that goal in mind. Has anyone had experience in HOn3 and/or with these locomotives that would be helpful to my design process? Thanks in advance for any help!

I just bought a MDC HOn3 kit but haven't laid track yet. When I get time I will look in my back issues of Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette for track information.Off hand I wouldn't go less then 18" radius.Caboose Hobbies has a lot of narrow gauge merchandise including -8-2's.

Thanks for the note. Even though I live in MN now, I grew up in Colorado and am very familiar with Caboose Hobbies. I highly recommend them in terms of price, selection, and customer service. They are wonderful. Look forward to more advise and thoughts.
