Any idea on how to make it look closer to the real thing?[?]

Mount it in a recessed pit and put a bridge type turntable, such as the bridge from a Walthers turntable, on top of it. The Atlas turntable can be made to look like the bottom of the turntable pit, and it's not really noticeable that it is turning.

My wife recently did a cleaning blitz in our kitchen. Somehow a Model Railroader mag got behind the stove!
It is the February 2002 issue and has an article on page 94 about building a turntable using an Atlas TT as the base and for indexing.
Hope this is useful...
