Anyone have a good source for buying plaster cloth in bulk?
There's never time to do it right, but always time to do it over.....
How much is "bulk?"
I download the weekly 40% off coupon from Michaels or A.C. Moore, the craft stores. Their plaster cloth is already cheaper than the model RR scenery company versions, and with the coupon it's very reasonable.

I scored some on Amazon about six months ago. 40 rolls for $40 including shipping. If was for kiddie crafts and came in four different colors. Since it was going to be covered by rock castings or paint, I didn't worry about it. Each roll came individually wrapped.
You need to start using the Internet search sites more. My favorite is Dogpile.com.

The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.
(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.
I don't remember the name of the place, but I found some that appeared to be remnants from a medical supply depot that was selling by the pound. At the time I purchased 200 pounds for $30 plus shipping five years ago.
Check e-Bay and use the search "gauze" or "plaster cloth" or such.
200 lbs? You have enough to last you a life time. I ditto Mr B's suggestion. Michael's with or without the coupon.

Bearman,
200 lbs is not really that much! and for $30 - a great deal. I have picked up damaged rolls via eBay - You need to buy in bulk as the shipping is the killer. Even with your 40% coupon, it still is sort of pricey. I find the 3" rolls at Hobby Lobby are handy, and I buy them when they have a sale on all plaster related stuff. Otherwise I just use the damaged/miss-wound rolls I got off of eBay for most of my bluffs. It took over 30 rolls to do 18' of bluffs on the layout.

Dave,
Thanks - that is exactly what I was looking for. For those who might be wondering, I did do an internet search and also looked at Ebay before asking my question. The collective knowledge of everyone on the forum can be invaluable and, if anyone else was looking for this product, now they have the answer.
jr, I believe you if you are talking about a layout the size of which supports 18' of bluffs. My layout is well under 100 sf, about 75 sf, and if I bought 200 lbs (the price notwithstanding), I am sure that I would be bequeathing a portion of the haul to my heirs. Which brings up a question, most likely off topic on this forum, as to what is the mean and median size home layout, NOT including club layouts, as measured by either total surface area and/or total length of track? The closest I have come is the results of a survey, I think it was on the NCE website, which indicated that 70%+ of layouts are operated by one person, about 20% by two operators and the rest, less than 10% by more than 2 persons. I hope my memory has not failed me with respect to these numbers. Which leads to the question of whether or not layout size can be correlated to layout size.
Not exactly in bulk but I was able to purchase a supply cheaply at American Science and Surplus, which sells a variety of outdated medical material and equipment in addition to other unusual stuff. I passed up, for example, the used embalming table with built in drainage system as i could not think of a model railroad use for it, although now that I am thinking of reviving some old lichen and sedum with a glycerine treatment perhaps I need it after all ......

My wife is a Veterinary Surgeon. She brings me home the expired stuff. Yes it does have an expiry date on it and it usually ends up in the garbage. So ask your Veterinarian to save the expired stuff for you. Ask if they can put a note on there supply with your phone # and to phone you when they are surveying the stock room for expired Medical supplies.

Search for a medical supply company in your area. 8" x 100' goes for about $20 plus tax, less if you buy in quantity.

I could be wrong, but I think maybe, just maybe there is an N scale layout on the table somewhere in there?? the drainage ditch for a river??
Here is another source for nearly 400 Feet long rolls 6 " wide:

I guess they also carry the brand previously referenced above.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
Thanks for all great resources. Is it me, or does all of the non-sterile varieties all look the same which makes me wonder that it is all manufactured by one company who just packages it according to various specifications. Just a thought...

very likely perhaps most probably, maybe not.
Well Woodland Scenics is known to be a repackager of stuff but I can say that Woodland Scenics and Scenic Express, both of which I have used in addition to actual old medical stuff, look different and even feel different -- and both do the job.
