tunnel liners

I am having a hard time making some kind of tunnel liners. Some of the tracks come out of the "mountains" at an angle, which exposes some of the inside wall of the tunnels. I have tried making some castings with Plaster of Paris using foil molds, as the tunnel portals are "blasted rock" type, but they are not very convincing. I know Woodland Scenics has something. What else is out there?

Actually a simple piece of Masonite painted black is very effective. In my opinion the goal should not be to call attention to the inside of the tunnel, but rather to make it dissappear. If you really feel that you need some kind of textured surface, just take a piece of foam and carve it a little, then paint it.

There another topic going on the use of card(board). I've found that cereal box card is good for liners. If you have to cut short overlapping sections like the shoulder pieces of old time armour to accomodate curves in the track, black or dark paint will cover the joints. The base of the card has to be held by something, so a strip of wood or foam glued on either side can act as a liner retainer. Joint this retainer as needed for the curve.

I've also seen some liners made of cardboard with crinkled aluminum foil glued on and painted flat black. They looked OK.
