How much would DCC be for 3 engines in N Scale? If you need a model lets say SD40's and -2's from Kato.

Matt,
Do you just want decoders for your 3 engines or a DCC system?
Systems start at about $150. Decoders start at about $16 each.

Three drop-in N scale decoders = $28 apiece ($84)
Basic DCC system (Atlas or Digitrax) = $150
Two walkaround throttles = $90 apiece ($180)
Four fascia panels = $17 apiece ($68)
Miscellaneous wire = $30
Basic total = $452 (give or take fifty bucks, if you really shop around)

First of all, how big a layout? A very large one might require what orsonroy said, your basic 8x4 will require less:
digitrax zepher system: $150
3 decoders, around $25 apiece: $75
total: $225
