Reusing Atlas Dual Mode Decoders
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, July 23, 2004 12:57 PM
I'm in the process of upgrading/updating some of my Atlas engines that came with the Atlas Dual Mode decoder. My question is, can I reuse the Atlas decoder in say a F3 B Unit? Properly wired in of course. I have 4 Stewart/Kato F3B units that I thought the lower end decoders would be perfect for. I'd rather put the newer, full function decoders in the GP units.

Any thoughts, or hidden problems I should be aware of? Will the Atlas decoders work in other manufacturers engines if properly wired in?

Sure, I don't see why it wouldn't work. If properly wired. I pulled and trashed all of the dual mode decoders and replaced them. I'm glad Atlas is now giving the option of with or without decoder.

Atlas dual mode decoders will fit in most Kato built or based locomotives including most Stewart F units. When you pull the shell off, compare the dual mode decoder with the existing circuit board, it is either a drop in replacement, or an awfull lot of work.....
