Are the SD group of shells interchangeable?

Ok, not much of a response to my previous post about the changing of shells.

To make things easier, are the SD shells from Kato captible with each other?

Meaning can I take a SD40-S shell off of an egine and then place a SD40 shell onthe same engine without any problems?

Thanks,

Sherman

Sherman:

Kato offered in N scale:

EMD SD40
EMD SD40-2
EMD SD45
EMD SD70MAC Mid-Prod Cab HL
EMD SD70MAC w/ Cab HL
EMD SD70MAC w/ Nose HL
EMD SD80MAC
EMD SD90MAC

The SD40 and the SD45 chassis are similar, and the shells may be interchangeable. The SD70MAC shells are probably interchangeable. The SD80MAC and SD90MAC shells are probably interchangeable. And that is it. The SD40 and SD40-2 are not.

Thanks.

I guess I am going to have to purchase a new engine to go with my shell.

I took an SD40 snoot nose (Kato), and chopped off just enough of the short hood snoot to make it an SD40 regular short hood. It worked just fine. The deck under the upper shell apparently is designed for both shell types (SD40 snoot and SD40).

You are referring to SD40-2 snoot nose and SD40-2 regular nose, not SD40 models.
