What is a feeder wire and what are they for?

Hi,
Simply put, a feeder is a wire from the track power bus to the rail. The Atlas rail joiners with attached wire are an example of a "feeder".
The following webpage shows some simple information on feeders and buses for DCC. DC would be essentially the same as far as the feeders go.

in other words, it's just the wire that brings power to the track..
