PC connection for Digitrax Zephyr?
Posted by simon1966 on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 11:07 PM
I have just got a Zephyr and have a PC which I will use to run the Decoder Pro software. There are 2 choices of interface. Locobuffer 2 and the digitrax MS100 solution. Is any one better than another? and why?

Thanks

I use the Locobuffer (One, I didn't even know there was a Two), and have had great success with it. Both Locobuffer and MS100 do the same thing, really. The Locobuffer has better reliability and is less of a strain on the host computer than the MS100, but the MS100 does not have to be assembled. If you can assemble the Locobuffer or get one assembled, I would go with that. It costs slightly less than the MS100, but not by much.

Locobuffer 2 is a ready made device suggested on the JMRI site as well as by some of the vendors. It seems to get the nod, but I was interested in why it would be the better solution. Better reliability would be a good reason.
