Disguising a mountain gap
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, May 14, 2004 9:50 PM
I am thinking of building a mountain on the left hand side of my layout. I also want to build a mine to go with it. To go along with my mine I was wanting to build an actual mine scene inside the mountain and having the top portion of the mountain removable so that the mine scene on the inside of the mountain, may be seen. PLEASE HELP me to figure out a way to camouflage this gap in the mountain where it is removable.

I have a hill in a corner that I built a removable lid so that I can access the tracks inside. My hill is wooded, so I intend to hide the join with trees and bushes.

I visited a layout last year that have a mine on one of the mountains. The mine was on the side of the mountain that is close to the edge of the layout. Part of the fascia was glass and you could see the mine through the glass. Neat!!

you can build a rock overhang that hangs over the seams..also line it with shrubbery on the edges of the overhang

Put a window in the side of the mountain. That way you won't have a gap, won't have potential damage from lifting it off, and will have a prototypical scene to view inside. Hang grain of rice/wheat bulbs inside to light the scene.
