Mike, Sounds like the same problem I'm having with my On30 shay with a Soundtraxx Decoder. Everything is great except the engine is not moving and it is exhauting away like it is doing 15mph. I'll be watching your post to see what someone comes up with.

According to the SoundTraxx DSD Manual, you can program a value of 1 into CV 53 to turn sound off except when the locomotive is specifically selected to be operated, meaning that it will be quiet until you select that locomotive's address by assigning it to a controller. The default value of CV 53 is 0, which keeps sounds on at all times when the track has a DCC signal active.
