Correct code 83 track observation?
Posted by kasskaboose on Monday, December 8, 2008 8:35 PM

I noticed that whenever I curve the code 83 ME flex track, some of the ties tend to bunch up and/or  get a "V" shape. Am I correct that the track loses its tightness by cutting the plastic piece underneath the ties?   If so, how do I keep the ties evenly spaced and still keep a good curve?

TIA!

Lee,

Once I have curved the ME track, I usually take the tip of my index finger and run it down the track between the rails, causing the misaligned ties to slide back parallel with the adjoining ties. There's no need to go to all of the extra effort to cut the webbing under the rails. I think you are correct; if you cut that webbing, the track might not hold the curve you have formed.

Why must the ties be perfectly aligned?

Even in the best of track that's been maintained to be near perfect, your ties are going to be crooked and "diagonal" after tamping and other alignments. It's the nature of the beast.
