I have nearly finished the mainline and need more track! Some like having code 83 on the mainline and code 70 in the sidings and yard. Should I keep the track uniform--using 83 ME flex track everywhere and would it look odd? If I go w/ code 70 in the yard and sidings, what turnouts to get for the yard and how to use the transition joiners? All of the track would be ME flextrack.
TIA!

Lee, with a turnout you should choose the heavier one. E.g. for code 83 and code 70 track, the turnout should be code 83. And for code 70 and code 55 track the turnout should be code 70.
I've used for main track code 83, for sidings code 70 and for some spurs code 55.

kasskaboosehow to use the transition joiners?
Don't. Install one end of the joiner onto the larger track. Flatten the other end fully with large pliers and solder the smaller rail to the top of it.
I know some say to never solder a joiner to a TO as this makes it hard to replace. But unsoldering really isn't all that hard.
