I was down to my local WalMart* the other day and lo and behold a new product. It is Elmers Clear School Glue. It is right next to the other white Elmers School Glue in the office supply section. I bought a bottle of it and used it to glue in some microscope slide cover window glass in the Masonic Temple that I am building for my HO layout. Not only is the stuff clear in the bottle it dries even clearer than the white glue. The little bit of glue I accidentally got on the visible part of the window is hardly noticable unless you are tilting the window in such a way that you can see the reflection. I am going to try it as you would use Micro Crystal Clear to make window panes and see how it works to actually make "glass". It works better in my oppinion than canopy cement, and so far it seems to be the best product for the job.
Speeking of window glass I got my latest issue of Railroad Model Craftsman and in there is an article about using real glass in windows. How about that. I also have microscope slide covers in 22 x 60(?) mm slide covers. I have been using the several boxes I got for 30 years or better, so it is possible the larger size is no longer available.

I learned a long time ago that Elmer's School glue breaks down over time and loses it's bond. I avoid it altogether and use the regular Elmer's Glue-All.

I buy Elmer's White glue by the gallon. I keep refilling two small bottles, one straight up and one dilluted 3/1 ready for immediate use.
