I did a search on what people in N-scale use for telephone wires, and here’s what I came up with:

  • 2-lb monofilament is .005" in diameter, which is 0.8" in N-scale.

  • Very fine polyester monofilament thread made by Sulky. It's .004" in diameter, smoke colored, and has a little shine to it so it looks like real wire

  • Sewing thread.

  • Berkshire Junction EZ Line.

One warning – be careful about placement as it can make track accessibly an issue (can’t reach the track without getting tangled in the wires).

Lycra sewing thread. It's made for sewing things like sports bras.
