Walthers 90' Turntable Kit
Posted by dadret on Thursday, March 25, 2004 6:57 AM
I am installing a Walthers 90' Turntable (I am a rookie in the hobby) and don't want to go through the complicated wiring shown in the kit. What I would like to do is run the bridge track power wires to an Atlas Twin and also the wire from the Motorizing Kit to the other side of the Twin and not mess with the wipers etc.

Can someone tell me whether this will work. I know there will be some limitiations on the operation but that's OK.

I think what you want to do is let the wires twist back and forth. Right? If so, Bad idea! Eventually the wires will break from fatigue. In any event, at some time some will turn the bridge enough times the same direction to cause the wires to pull or break. If that happens you will have to take everything apart to replace the wires.

What part of installing the wipers are you having trouble with? I have a Heljan turntable that uses the same wire kit. It's not too difficult if you know how to solder.
e-mail me if you have any other question about this and I'll try to help you through it.

By the way, I see this is your first post so [#welcome] to Forum

I built this T/T with some modifications (Search MR Forums for similar topics) and it works fine. I did taper the ends of the wipers to ensure continuous contact with the brass collars, and I pivoted the motor and placed a light pressure spring behind it for good contact with the main gear wheel, but some folk have been a bit critical of the Walthers T/T, a bit of tinkering and it goes very well. Kits often benefit from some user modifications...I figure if I was scratch building it, it would take a heck of a lot of effort so I use some saved effort to tweak things a bit. Enjoy building and operating a not too bad inexpensive item.
Geoff I wish I was better trained.
