MODEL RAILROADER LAYOUTS

Are the track requirements available to the layouts published? In particular the Fox River RR in the June 2005 issue.

I don't think for that one. Perhaps you can try putting it together in one of the freeware track planning programs that supports your track and use that to make a list. I have found published track plans may require fiddling to put together with off the shelf track components. I remember trying to make an Ian Rice plan work with Peco turnouts using XTrkCad and discovering some sections just were not going to fit without some modification.. it was the Cherry Picked New England in "Smal, Smart, and Practical Trackplans" I think.

You would also have the benefit of being able to fuss with some of the curves to better fit your particular space.

Good luck!

Unless otherwise stated, track plans assume the use of flex track (or handlaid).  There is frequently mention in the text of turnout brand used or designed to.  However, I would carefully check my brand against congested track areas on the plan before committing to it - even if I were using the same brand, as the builder may have modified his, or the manufacturer may have made recent changes.

MR's project railroads usually include a list of materials including track that were used and modifications if any are described.

Enjoy
