Well, the layout is still at a stand still, but I finally have the absolute final plan (subject to change pending critiques.) Anyways, here we go:

The layout is based on Lance Mindheim's Miami layout. The emphasis is one or two trains servicing a small shortline, and a small power plant with their own switcher. Trains delivering coal from the powerplant arrive from the bottom right, while trains switching the industrial yards originate on the top left staging yards.
Any comments, please let me know. I am open to any critiques. Thanks for your time!

Yep!! You do need a runaround somewhere.
I would locate it on the bottom L part of the plan. I would move the siding at the bottom to the right some, then put it between that siding and the main, with the turnouts for the runaround just outside both of the two turnouts for the sidings at the upper part. Kind of hard to explain it without drawing it.

I myself am going through the design thing right now along with some great input from other posters and have revised my plan accordingly. Everything is subject to change.
As for myself I would add a turning wye in the corner. (to turn the Locomotive)
Along with a run-around. (to run the Locomotive around to the other end of the train)
Or just an engine escape at the end of the power plant leads.

My suggestion: build the benchwork and lay out your track. I like doing this as it inspires you to keep working. don't fasten the track down. try out your current arrangement. it is possible to do without a runaround. then, try a runaround see what operates better. this usually helps determine my "final" plan!
