In checking out Acrylic adhesive caulk at Home Depot on Friday, I did not like the VOC level for this material. I checked out two other products and bought a tube of each to try. The Acrylic caulk is more for window and door caulking, and therefore more suitable for outdoor use where there is plenty of natural ventilation. I know that you could use this product indoors, but it clearly states with plenty of ventilation. Granted, we are not talking about copious amounts of this stuff being placed down at once to fill the room with odors, but why take the chance when there is someting safer is my feeling.
1. Loctite Power Grab all-purpose construction adhesive. Low odor, water cleanup, highest initial tack, 15 minutes to reposition if needed. Rated for foamboard. Safer for indoor use.
2. Liquid Nails Projects & Foamboard. Water cleanup, low odor, high strength, 15 minutes work time to reposition, safer for indoor use.
Have any of you guys tried either of these products to lay track?

Dick,
I really like the DAP Alex Fast Dry (Fast Dry Acrylic Latex caulk plus silicone):
Costs only ~$2 per tube, works great, and cures in 24 hours. It also doesn't have the nasty chemicals that require ventilation that some of the other foam adhesives do. (Read the labels!)
Just make sure you smooth it out thinly and evenly with a putty knife. It holds road bed and track very well but you can still pry it up later if you need to repair or replace something.

I agree with Tom. The DAP caulk is a very good product. The painters on the job will use it indoors by the case and there is virtually no odor at all. Heck, I have probably eaten a whole tube of the stuff by now just running a wet finger over caulked joints of my woodwork. "Doesn't even taste too bad either"

I used LocTite Power Grab to fasten Woodland Scenics foam roadbed to an extruded foam module base, and gray colored latex caulk to fasten the track. Another person here is using Power Grab for all of his home layout construction using both foam and cork roadbed. Results have been good with both products.
Has anyone used any of these products to attach "O" gauge tinplate Lionel track to foam? If so, how successful were you?
I'm using all tinplate track. It is either homasote/cellutex (sp) or extruded foam. Not sure if I'll use ballast so attaching track to the foam is an issue unless I use the zip ties as Neil B used in his layout shown in a recent past issue of CTT.

For attaching the stamped steel ties to foam the only adhesive that I feel would work best would be the Liquid Nails for foam. This adhesive has a better hold than any of the latex or acrylic caulks and may work much better for the steel. The track can be nailed down on those homosote sections, you may want to use liquid nail there also but I don't believe it's really nec.
I use the loctite for foam and it sure gets tough when it cures and you try to pull it apart!
