running by home computer
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, February 16, 2004 2:43 PM
[8] In model railroader they are runninng a five part series on using your home computer to run your layout but so far it has not address the issue of what switchs for the turnouts will work with that type of setup, I was just wondering if anyone had any info on it or could tell me were to go to get it. I just want to do away with all the switches I will need on the panel to run my layout. I want to run signals block detection and my turnouts all from my computer. Any help or comments would be welcome.[:D]

Spectrum.
That series is based on building your own hardware and writing your own software. If that's what you want to do, great. [8D] Maybe they'll get to the switches in the next installment.

There are also some ready made comercial solutions that can do a lot more than what we have read. Zimo hardware and STP software is such a system.[;)]

The controls described so far are for SPST electrical switches. Tortise or SwtichMaster will work directly with this sort of control, solenoid type machines will require additional circuitry.
