What is the best way to make ripples on an Enviro-Tex pond? Is matte medium the thing to use? What is the best way to apply it?
Thanks
Well, there's really no "best" way to do anything. That said, Joe Fugate has some very good ways of doing things:

I suggest gloss medium, not matte medium. Gloss medium will more closely match the high gloss of the pond itself, whether Enviro Tex or Magic Water or any of the Woodland Scenics water products. Applied with a toothpick around rocks, branches etc it gives the appearance of gently rippled water. I suggest creating a trial bit of "water" and giving gloss medium a try. The brand I use is Liquitex and I buy it at the hobby/artist supply shop.

Gloss medium. I get mine from Dick Blick art. Some say you can tease the envirotex a bit just before it sets up. I've never tried it myself.

Joe Fugate does some great work and has some good information on his web site. I used acrylic gloss gel medium on top of my Envirotex creek, with a little white mixed in where the water meets rocks and abutments. I understand the gel version of the medium is a little thicker. I think it came out looking pretty good. If anything, I think I would have left it off of a few sections of the creek just to have some variation of calm surface vs faster moving water. Jim
