Dcc Sound vs loc speed
Posted by Woofda on Thursday, January 10, 2008 11:02 PM
Could someone help me to program a dcc loc to first have the eng sound rev up then have the loc move. This mimics the prototype. I Know that that is possible to do because I have a friend that has all of his motive power to do this trick. I dont have a clue which cv's to program or in what order to program them.  My friend the type that will show me how to do this and he does it all himself and you learn nothing but the loco will perform as stated above. If someone could tell me how to do this it would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the decoder and the CV that is meant to make the changes.  That's if the decoder provides this feature.

What you are asking about should be described in some detail in the manual for the decoder you are using.  It will be available on the manufacturer's site as a PDF file for downloading.

It does depend on the decoder.  On my Proto 2000 and BLI steam locos with the QSI sound its already programmed into the decoder - its the F6 key for start up and F9 for shut down and I think thats the NMRA standard.  Your manual that came with the decoder of loco should show you how.  Using the F6 key on your controller does exactly what you want to do.

As others have already indicated, it's a matter of which sound decoder is in the locomotive, because some decoders don't have a CV that can be modified to support this.

None of the sound functions (CVs) are in the NMRA standards, either, so each sound decoder manufacturer is free to do whatever they choose.  You therefore must have the technical reference manual for the specific decoder that is in the locomotive in order to determine what can and cannot be adjusted.

Are you talking about the feature QSI sound systems have where you can set the sounds so the engine is louder when it's working harder -  like when you first start a train the engine sounds rev up really loud as it's first starting to pull, then quiets down once the train gets up to speed??

yes the engine revs up first then it starts to move.
