I am planning on cutting into the surface of my 2" thick Dow Foam on my shelf layout for the addition of a canal. Does anyone know how Envirotex reacts with foamboard? I really didnt want to dig out 2" of foam to get down to the wood base. I suppose I could dig out to the depth that I need and then add a layer of Hydrocal or another hard substrate to protect the foam. Any help would be appreciated.

The result would possibly depend upon the type of foam. I know from experience that it will soak right through plaster, even when it has been painted with acrylic hobby paints.
We had a small depression on our club layout that I tried pouring some into. The scenery form under the depression is the white styrofoam blocks that are used to cushion computer boxes. An old blanket was draped over the foam blocks, several layers of casting plaster were poured over the blanket, and it was then painted with the cheap acrylic hobby paints from Wal-mart.
Envirotex soaked through the paint, plaster, and blanket and simply disappeared. This first pour sealed the depression, though, and a second pour stayed in place, forming a small pond.
Hi.
I 've used Envirotex for all my rivers with no problem.I carve away what foam I need to,apply drywall mud to the banks, paint the bottom with latex, dam the ends and pour away!!

Once you coat the base and sides of the river with some kind of plaster and paint it with acrylic paint, Envirotex Lite works great. I got mine from woodcrafter.com as they had 16oz on sale for $7.10
Thanks everyone. I guess I will proceed with caution. I think part of solution would be to pour it slow and maybe in layers.
