Atlas gold programing problems
Posted by bunker45 on Thursday, January 3, 2008 7:02 PM

I have an atlas gold Dash 8-40c  engine number 8690.  I would like to set up a 4 digit address for it, but have had a hard time with it.  That engine number is not located on the sheet atlas gave. any one know the next step?  Using the Digitras Super Chief.  By the way sound is really awesome!!!

thanks

Is your throttle the DT400?  If so, the way it works for me is to ensure your programming instruction is going only to the one engine (now on address 03).  Do this by either removing all other decoders on the system or isolating the track on which the engine rests so that only it is going to get the signal.

Then, enter Page Mode.  You'll see "Ad 2===?", meaning the throttle will now accept a primary address, but not the "extended" variety.  Yours counts as an extended address, so you must click the right throttle knob (encoder) and the display will read "Ad4===?".  Now you dial in, with the left encoder, all the way up to 8600, and then you can use the right encoder to dial it up to the 90.  Be sure you have the address right...double check....then press "enter".  You'll get a beep, a click, and the system will shut down.  The display will ask you to enable the new address, I forget the words, but whatever appears, press the "Y" in the second row right away.

Exit programming.  Now press the "P" button at lower left, and then press "Y" again.  In a second or two, the DB 150 will power up the tracks.  You may or may not get any sound or indication of a live engine.  Dial in Address 03 and press the bell or horn.  Does it sound?  If not, you have successfully set the new address.  Now, use the encoder to dial in your new address, and try the horn.  Horn works?  You are in business.

Note that if you get nothing from address 03, and if the decoder remains completely silent, try it on the new address.  If it is still completely unresponsive, you must activate the extended address by another easy step.  In Ops mode this time, enter programming and set CV 29 to a value of 38.  Enter that value, and press exit.  You should get the QSI powering up immediately because it has been given permission to use the new extended adress.  BTW, a value of 38 lets the decoder also work in DC mode if you should ever have to use it that way.

I hope that works for you.
